The Book of 2 Corinthians

After reading the Old Testament for so long, II Corinthians was a real treat to study. Something that really jumped out at me was Chapter 4, verses 7 - 10.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

What an amazing word picture this is! We are depicted as fragile, unattractive simple, earthen vessels. Vessels that are chosen to house and distribute the excellency of God. Because of this, when troubles, distresses, and persecutions come, we have no despair. We know that when our earthly bodies or vessels are cast down, the excellency of God and the life of Jesus is free to flow to those around us.
