The Book of Psalms

Psalms is one of the most studied and commentated books of the Bible, and for good reason. It provides healing for the depressed, protection for the weak, direction for the misguided, peace for the tense, and even wisdom for the ignorant. the fact that it's the largest book of the Bible could also be a contributor to the constant analysis.

You don't have to read long, however to find some good stuff. Psalms chapter 1 states,

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

I believe this is the key to the abundant life many Christians are just missing.

I remember as a young boy at an Alert Cadet challenge, one of the leaders told me, "Timothy, your success in life is directly proportional to the amount of scripture you memorize and meditate on." Well, I've always wanted to be successful, so that sort of stuck with me. It makes sense. If we make time for God He will make time for us. Whereas if we run with sinners, God will rarely even see us, and will have a hard time blessing us, for sure.

My second favorite chapter of Psalms is 136. David recites many different aspects of his creator ending each verse with "His mercy endureth forever."
How true it is. His mercy does endure forever. This is evidenced in David's life, in my own life, and the lives of all of us still breathing His air. His mercy endureth forever.

As we attempt to become more like Christ, we must look to the Psalms for guidance. David is said to be a man after God's own heart; an honorable goal for us as well. It is also interesting to see that when David takes his own advice, and does what he knows he should, God is able to grant true success.
